Bamberg (Commonly described as the City built in seven hills or Franconian Rome) is one of the oldest Cities in Franconia Germany and this is clearly evident with the old German style buildings that still stand strong. Situated in the Bavarian region, beautiful Bamberg is a perfect destination to tour old Germany.
The old style buildings in this city include big temples such as the Bamberg Cathedral that is indeed a German Treasure of faith. Built by Heinrich II and consecrated in 6th May 1012, it was the first Cathedral this size to be built in all of Germany. This is also the burrial ground for the holy couple "Heinrich and Kunigunde" The stone building suffered destruction by fire several times and was rebuilt twice. This and more old buildings have sometimes served as perfect locations for great movie producers as was the case with the 2011 movie "The Marketeers" .
The Bavarian tradition of taking a beer a day roots way in the old days of Germany. If you are chanced to be here during the season of the numerous beer festivals, your will have the chance to meet more people and probably make more friends. But remember not to drink too much!
The City is well watered by river water which historically offered the major transport system for merchandise.
